Northern Territory’s hospital adopts high-tech in hip surgery

Orthopaedic surgeon Dr Kush Shrestha has performed the first navigated primary total hip replacement in the Northern Territory at the Darwin Private Hospital.


According to Shrestha, it was the first time the latest technology had been used in the Territory.


Dr Shrestha had performed the surgery last month and said that the computerized trackers helped guide specialists when operating to ensure the utmost precision.  He further said that the computer hasn’t changed his surgical technique; rather it has made him a bit more accurate.


Shrestha had believed that the computerized technology was likely to help patients with long-term outcomes and to their recovery. It has been three years that Dr Shrestha has been using the similar tracking system in knee operation.


“We find that the alignment is quicker and will help bring long-term outcome,” he said.
