Art and literary conclave on Bhanu Jayanti

A literary conclave is to be held in July on the occasion of 205th Bhanu Jayanti, birth anniversary of poet Bhanu Bhakta Acharya, who is honored with the title of the Aadikavi (first poet) in the Nepali literature.


The Madan Bhandari Academy of Art and Literature has decided to host the three-day event titled “Himwatkhand Art Literature Conclave’ from July 13 to 15. The conclave will focus on discussions along with presentation of working papers about the situation of the Nepali language and literature at the current time, its importance and standard. A multi-linguistic poetry symposium and cultural programs are the parts of event. A workshop on literature and art will be held in Chandragiri on July 14, the Academy said.


It has been decided to form a main celebration committee under the convenorship of Prof Dr Rajendra Subedi in view of the literary summit. Linguistics, university teachers, literary people, artists and politicians from all seven provinces in the country and from India, Myanmar, Bhutan, Europe and America will be seen in the gathering.


Prime Minister and Academy patron KP Sharma Oli, during his meeting with a delegation from Academy comprising advisors and office-bearers Tuesday at the Prime Minister’s official residence Baluwatar, directed the delegation to include all languages and literary genres in the summit.


He was of the view of organizing regular discussions and meetings focusing on the creations of Lekhnath Poudel, Laxmi Prasad Devkota, Bal Krishna Sam, Parijat ( Bishnu Kumari Waiba), Dharanidhar Koirala, Gopal Prasad Rimal and Gokul Joshi and their incomparable contribution to the development and promotion of Nepali literature, culture and nationality.


Academy chair Dr Bijay Subba, general secretary Dr Devi Nepal, Prof Badri Bishal Pokhrel, Prof Dr Krishna Prasad Ghimire, Prof Dr Jibendradev Giri, Prof Dr Victor Pradhan, and Shanta Manwai were in the delegation.


Bhanu Bhakta (1814-1868) was born in the then Chundi Ramgha of Tanahu district and he had earned large popularity among the people for the translation of great epic Ramayan from Sanskrit into Nepali.


The Bhanu Jayanti falls on Asar 29 every year in the Nepali calendar.
