Govt provides 100 m grants to Tilganga Institute of Ophthalmology

The government has provided grants of Rs 100 million to the Tilganga Institute of Ophthalmology.


The Institute receives the assistance to upgrade intraocular lens production capacity. This lens is put on eyes following the surgery to remove cataract. The Institute produces this lens under the Nepal Eye Program.


Minister for Industry, Commerce and Supplies Matrika Prasad Yadav handed a cheque of the assistance amount to Institute executive director and chief Prof Dr Sanduk Ruit amidst a program at the Ministry Tuesday.


On the occasion, the Minister expressed his hope that with the use of grants, the Institute would be able to export intraocular lens.


He pledged to support industries contributing to promote export business. Institute Chief Ruit vowed to leave no stone unturned to increase the production capacity and efficiency. The Institute produces four types of eye lens ranging from the price of Rs 400,000 to 500,000 and also exports to 35 countries. China, Thailand and Pakistan have a high demand for the products.
