Chinese smartphone company Oppo launched their first model with a full HD and full-screen display — Oppo F5 — in the Nepali market on November 14. The selfie-focussed phone comes equipped with AI Beauty Recognition Technology and a 20MP front-facing camera to deliver professional quality self-portraits.
The AI-powered phone can reportedly identify shapes and facial structures based on a global database. It can then easily distinguish each person’s facial features from skin tone to type, gender and age to produce customised beautifying effects while taking selfies. The impressive 20MP front camera with a bright f/2.0 aperture is equipped with a 1/2.8-inch sensor which allows the phone to produce better images with less noise in low light. The camera also incorporates the much-loved bokeh effect. Meanwhile, the rear camera is a 16MP shooter with f/1.8 aperture.
Speaking to THT Hi-Tech Plus, Bobby Zhao, CEO of Oppo Nepal said, “The 20MP selfie shooter and AI technology have been created after lots of research to capture the perfect selfie, and we are very hopeful that Nepali youth who are fond of selfies will opt for Oppo F5 because of its unmatchable selfie effect. Oppo will continue to launch new phones in the Nepali market, catering to the growing needs of youth who are always in search of new phones and new features for better photography.”
The Oppo F5 flaunts a 6-inch full-screen FHD display with a high resolution of 2160 x 1080 pixels and an aspect ratio of 18:9. The model’s sleek unibody design and curved body give the device a simple and elegant look.
The phone is powered by an octa-core Mediatek (MT6763T) Helio P23 SoC and runs Android Nougat for a high performance speed. Its ColorOS 3.2 is coupled with 4GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage expandable up to 256GB via a memory card. The phone features a triple-slot tray which supports two Nano-SIM cards and one TF card. It packs a powerful 3200mAh battery along with continuous optimising technology that manages running apps and enables 12 hours of continuous use.
The Oppo F5 is equipped with a speedy Facial Unlock feature and a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor, as well as a Game Acceleration facility for gaming enthusiasts who want to minimise disturbances by managing phone calls and other notifications. It also comes with O-Share file-sharing technology, which is reportedly one hundred times faster than Bluetooth and can take as little as a second to transfer files between Oppo phones.
With the launch of Oppo F5 and their new slogan — ‘the Selfie expert and leader’, Oppo is aggressively expanding its business in the Nepali market. After having sponsored this year’s Nepal Idol, the company plans to sponsor two new
local television programmes. Explaining Oppo’s marketing strategy in Nepal, Kevin Hu, Brand Director at Oppo Nepal said, “Oppo has already endorsed Nepal Idol and will be sponsoring Boogie Woogie and Nepal’s Got Talent. With such programmes, we want to make sure that the growing number of Nepali consumers are familiar with our products. We are using online platforms as well as different print and broadcasting mediums to reach out to Nepali consumers.”
Within one year of entering the Nepali market, Oppo has launched a wide variety of smartphones to cater to the growing needs of consumers. Jithin Abraham, Product Manager at Oppo Nepal said, “Within one year, Oppo has created quite a presence in the Nepali smartphone market. By targeting youth who want a quality device for selfies, we are bringing new camera features to our phones. Oppo F5 is no exception and it ensures a perfect selfie experience for our consumers along with other necessary features.” The OPPO F5 is priced at Rs 33,990 and is available across the country.
