Seven women right activists honored

Seven women right activists including two media persons have been honored for their contribution to ending violence against women and creating awareness on women rights.


The honored women include photo journalist Chandra Kala Chhetri of Naya Patrika daily, and Rukum correspondent of Kantipur daily, Hari Gautam, and Maya Gurung (Taplejung), Babita Kumari Jaiswal (Bara), Uma Kumari Subedi (Makawanpur), Rita Sharma (Baglung), Sharada Dangi (Rukum), Tirtha Kumari GC (Surkhet) and Dev Kumari Khati (Bajura).


Minister for Women, Children and Senior Citizen Tham Maya Thapa handed Rs 15,000 each to them in honor amid a program in the National Women Commission in the Capital Friday.


Speaking at the program, Minister Thapa stressed the need for implementing constitutional provisions related to women’s rights.


The Ministry is preparing to transform the Commission as a constitutional body, she informed.
