The Armed Police Force (APF) last night arrested a youth trying to smuggle gold and silver worth Rs 2.4 million to India through Matihani municipality in Mahottari district.
Dipendra Thakur, 24, of Janakpur Sub Metropolitan City – 4 was arrested during a checking, according to Superintendent of Police (SP) Murari Basnet of APF Border Security Office at Jalsagar, Mahottari.
The APF team led by Inspector Umesh Ale Magar waylaid a bike with Indian registration plate no B R 07 AB 4918 at Awarchowk of Matihani – 3 under suspicion at 8 am and found the consignment of precious metal hidden in it.
Thakur was smuggling the gold to Madhubani district in Bihar, India.
Police confiscated Rs 2.4 million worth of 20 kilos of silver and 200 grams of gold, Basnet said. The police also seized the motorbike and a mobile set from the youth. Thakur has been sent to the Revenue Investigation Regional Office, Pathalaiya for legal action.
