Tamang wins junior golf tournament

Ritesh Tamang won the title of the Nepal Olympic Day Junior Golf Tournament here at the Royal Nepal Golf Club today.


Tamang accumulated 31 points to win the Above-13 section trophy and gold medal. Binod Tamang (29) and Mayank Dahal (27) came second and third respectively.


Likewise, Sadbhav Acharya won the U-12 section trophy and gold medal with 13 points, while Ruben Jung Thapa was second with eight points and Swapnil Bhattarai was third with seven points. Kashmira Shah was the winner in girls’ section with 28 points, whereas Devasri RL Rana (26) and Prativa Rai (23) were second and third respectively.


Laxman Yadav won the longest drive award, while Ashraya Bista and Divya Karki bagged silver and bronze medals respectively. Also, Ozaswi Karki, Saibyasri Jung Deuja and Rajesh Sunar claimed top three spots respectively in closest-to-the-pin, while Prinjaron Waiba, Dilashma Karki and Sugam Bhattarai won gold, silver and bronze respectively in putting competition.


A total of 53 players took part in the one-day event organised by Nepal Golf Association to mark the Olympic Day.


Meanwhile, Amrit Thapa Magar and Bhawana Sunuwar won gold medals in the National Open Squash Tournament organised by Nepal Squash Rackets Association to mark the Olympic Day. Thapa Magar defeated Prabin Bir Singh Kansakar 11-5, 11-6, 11-9 in men’s singles final, while Amir Blon and Gyanu Chaudhary finished joint third.


Likewise, Sunuwar registered a 11-5, 11-7, 11-9 victory over Bipana Blon in women’s singles final. Sapana Blon and Swasthani Shrestha finished third. Also, Sudip Bahadur Singh defeated Indra Bahadur Karki 11-8, 14-12, 11-3 in above-50 Masters singles final, while Amar Keshar Singh and Mahendra Maharjan were joint third. NSRA President Kishore Maharjan and founder president Bharat Keshar Singh handed over the prizes to the winners.


Meanwhile, Nepal Olympic Committee President Jeevan Ram Shrestha thanked all the participants and sports association who were involved in the Olympic Day celebration that ended today. According to NOC, around 12,000 players and officials were involved in eight-day celebration organised by Sports For All Commission under NOC. A total of 65 events were held throughout the country.


At a closing Ceremony held at the Nepali Army Sports Complex in Lagankhel, Shrestha handed over the Olympic Torch to Nepal’s first international medal winning athlete Jeet Bahadur KC.
