Sukilumba Airport sees successful test flight

The under-construction Sukilumba Airport in Ilam of Province 1 has recorded a successful test flight. The Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) facilitated to conduct the test flight Monday.


An aircraft of the Tara Air (private airlines company) landed at the airport at around 12 noon, bringing cheers among the people gathered to witness the moment. A large number of locals had been eagerly waiting for the arrival of airplane since the morning. Once crew members Prabhakar Ghimire (pilot) and Sanjiv Mishara (co-pilot) came out of the cockpit, the locals received them with warm hospitality.


The construction of the airport had begun around six years ago and gravel works are left to be done, according to CAAN engineer Pushpa Neupane. The airport with a 60-meter-wide runway and 700-meter in length covers an area of 325 ropani (one ropani is equivalent to 5476 sq ft). Its contract was given at Rs 11.5 million.
