NC loses even in National Assembly lottery

Nepali Congress (NC) has lost even in the lottery of National Assembly.


The main opposition party will have just four members in the upper house after four years with just four of its 13 members getting a six-year term in the lucky draw on Monday.


Seven of the NC members have been drawn a two-year term and just two got a four-year term.


Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa of CPN, meanwhile has got a six-year term like National Assembly Chairman Ganesh Prasad Timalsina. Vice Chairman Shashi Kala Dahal has got a four-year term while Finance Minister Yuba Raj Khatiwada has got a two-year term.


Khatiwada will have to get elected to the federal parliament within six months of expiry of his term to continue as minister.


Radheshyam Adhikari of NC and singer Komal Oli of CPN both have got a four-year term in the lucky draw.


One-third members of the first National Assembly will have two-year term, another one-third four-year term, and the rest six-year term, according to the constitution.


Election will be held for the vacant positions every second year. The newly elected ones, however, will all get six-year term.
