Home Minister directs for uninterrupted power supply to TIA

The government has expressed its concern over the issue of disruption in the power supply to Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA), country’s sole international airport.

Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa Tuesday summoned Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) executive director Kulman Ghising to his office and directed him to take measures to address problems seen in the power supply to TIA.

The Home Minister insisted on the need of addressing the issue as chances of illegal business/activities are high in immigration and other bodies in the absence of continued power supply, promising all sorts of possible help from the government toward that end.

Disruption in airport’s power supply system for a brief time may cause a big problem, he said, directing the NEA chief to pay a special attention to the matter.

In response, NEA executive director Ghising said problems in power voltage sometimes caused minor problems for power supply to the airport, adding that the NEA was serious about it. He promised to take all possible measures to avoid such situation in the future. “The NEA efforts will be for providing uninterrupted power supply to TIA, hospitals and other emergency areas.”

He took the time to call on the Home Minister to provide necessary help to the NEA for controlling power leakage.
