Discussion with India for additional air routes

Officials of India and Nepal have started discussion on additional entry route for airplanes to Nepal in Kathmandu on Thursday.

Deputy Director General at the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) Rajan Pokharel said the two sides will talk about routes needed for international airports being constructed in Nepal, and cross-border flights to Indian cities from Nepali airports in the plains.

Air Navigation Chief of CAAN Narendra Bahadur Thapa and Air Navigation Chief of the Airports Authority of India AK Dutta are taking part in the discussion. It will continue till Friday.

India has already agreed in principle to provide air routes demanded by Nepal. But Nepal has yet to get an additional air route nine years later.

The only entry route now from India is through Simara now. Nepal has been demanding entry from Janakpur, Bhairahawa, Nepalgunj and Mahendranagar.
