Pariyar, Koirala clinch titles

Former champion Jitendra Pariyar and defending champion Prerana Koirala won singles titles of the sixth Citizens Bank Open Tennis Tournament today.


In men’s category final, Pariyar defeated Kamal Bhandari 6-3, 3-6, 6-3, while Koirala outplayed Ira Rawat in women’s category final. Koirala won the first set 6-3 and was leading 3-0 in the second set Rawat pulled out on medical grounds. The winners and runners-up in both the sections got Rs 50,000 and Rs 25,000 respectively.


On Friday, the pair of Pariyar and Khatri had won men’s doubles title, while Krishna Raj Ghale won the above-45 veteran singles event. Ghale, who teamed up with Suwarna Dhakwa, won above-45 veteran doubles title as well. In above-35 veteran doubles, Shree Ram Magar and Sobhitman Shrestha bagged gold medal, while duo of Manoj Rana and Chhyamba Dandup  won above-55 veteran doubles title.


A total of 135 players competed in 11 different events of the tournament organised by Kathmandu District Lawn Tennis Association under the sponsorship of Citizens Bank.
