Ryan Renolds, our own Deadpool is going to play the titular character in a movie called Detective Pikachu. Looks like Pikachu is now a gumshoe, complete with a Sherlock Holmes hat, a magnifying glass, and a newly acquired grasp of the English language. This would be an expansion of the Pokemon Go franchise. Now, giving Ryan Renolds something like is a unique thing in itself as you never expect him to be doing something like this.
Here we see what Detective Pikachu is all about and Ryan Reynold’s role in it:
The upcoming film is a live-action adaptation (wait, what? How?)
It is based on the gaming franchise of the same name. Reynolds will play Detective Pikachu, a version of the classic Pokémon character who works as an investigator.
Might be an Animation movie but wait there’s a catch!
Reynolds will lend his voice to the titular character as well as be doing motion capture for the CG Pokémon,
Meaning that the new Pikachu won’t just sound like Deadpool, he might kind of look like him, too.
Reynolds has plenty of experience with voice acting.
Reynolds has plenty of experience with voice acting, having starred in The Croods.
And made appearances on Family Guy in the past. But it’ll be interesting to see how his weird, hyper-referential comedy will translate to the plump electric rodent.
Though the plot and the Storyline aren’t clear.
It’s unclear whether Reynolds’s Pikachu is the same one that once trailed Ash around Viridian City or just another member of the same Pokémon species.
If it’s the Pikachu we know and love, then he has apparently retired from the fighting circuit to work as a gumshoe, complete with a Sherlock Holmes hat, a magnifying glass, and a newly acquired grasp of the English language. This would be pretty badass!
It would be a movie full of Stars!
Reynolds will star alongside Justice Smith (The Get Down) to help him find his kidnapped father and Lady Bird’s Kathryn Newton in the film, which is directed by Rob Letterman and set to go into production early next year.
Of course, fans had a lot to say about this news.
Pikachu, of course, is known for communicating solely by repeating his own name. Last time I checked, that’s not really a helpful trait for a detective to have. Just imagine Batman running around Gotham screaming his own name at criminals, and you’ll get what I mean.
Reynolds’ role will reportedly be motion-capture, while the rest of the cast will be real people.
The more I hear about this move, the more I think I need it in my life immediately.
This is quite a good theory but…
But, in another wild twist, some fans are actually disappointed about the casting because Danny DeVito was the fan favorite to voice the character.
Fans who wanted Devito for the role are getting heated on Twitter right now, but back in April when he was asked about it, DeVito revealed he has no idea what Pokémon are. Now I have more questions about how a person can go through life and never encounter Pokémon. It’s everywhere! So, personally being a Pokemon fan as well I don’t support his voice.
The reaction of Fans now:
We’ll have to wait for Detective Pikachu to hit theaters to see how—or if—the mechanics of the world make any sense at all. If you need your Ryan Reynolds fix before then, Deadpool 2 is set to drop June 1 and all of us are pretty excited.
