Acclaimed to be the best phone of 2017, the OnePlus 5T is doing really well internationally. The phone promises to deliver user experience like no other. But does it?

Stunning with narrower bezels

The striking difference between OnePlus 5T and OnePlus 5 is the design. The bezels are narrowed down on all four corners. The display of the phone also has a new aspect ratio which makes the phone longer than its predecessor. And, since there is no place for the front-mounted fingerprint scanner, the company has moved it to the back.

Vibrant display

The OnePlus 5T houses a 6.1-in Optic AMOLED display with screen resolution of 1080 x 2160p. The phone has 18:9 aspect ratio. The display is of good quality with vibrant colours. In addition to that, outdoor visibility of the phone is also excellent. And, thanks to the slim bezels on the sides, watching videos and playing games is an immersive experience on the phone.

Efficient performance

The OnePlus 5T flies through any task you throw at it! It is powered by the state of the art Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC and is coupled with either 6GB or 8GB of RAM. The SoC used on the phone is well-known for its efficiency and performance.  No matter what you do on the phone, you will not experience slow-downs. And unlike many phones, OnePlus is well known for maintaining their performance for years with no signs of slowdown.

Runs on Android 7.1.1

Software is supposed to be one of the big pros of OnePlus phones. But it is clearly not the case now. The OnePlus 5T runs on Android 7.1.1 Nougat while Android 8.0 Oreo was launched in August, 2017.  OnePlus somewhat does not seem to provide the software update on time lately. But that does not mean the software experience is bad in any ways. In fact, it is just the opposite. OnePlus has one of the cleanest versions of Android with very little bloatware and it makes the user-experience better than stock Android.

Two rear cameras

Just like the OnePlus 5, the OnePlus 5T packs in a dual-camera at the rear. But this time around, both the rear cameras have 27-mm lens and f/1.7 aperture. While using a same focal length lens has its advantages, the missing 2x optical zoom feature that was on the OnePlus 5 will be missed by many.

The image quality out of both the rear cameras (16MP+20MP) and the front (16MP) is excellent. Be it indoors or outdoors, the phone takes exceptionally good photos. It is only in low-lit environment where the phone slightly struggles. Apart from that, there is really no denying that the phone has superb cameras. The phone also takes DSLR like photos using a feature called ‘Portrait’ mode which uses two lens and some software tweaks to create a Bokeh effect.

Connectivity and sensors

The OnePlus 5T has a dual nano-SIM slot but unfortunately misses out on a Micro-SD expansion slot. The other thing that the phone is missing has to be the wireless charging feature.

The phone has all the sensors you would expect from a flagship model. It includes accelerometer, gyro, proximity, compass and an excellent fingerprint scanner. And yes, there is NFC for short-range data communication as well.

Good real-life battery endurance

The OnePlus 5T is powered by a 3,300mAh battery. And although on paper, the OnePlus 5T does not have a large battery, the real-life battery endurance is quite good. The phone easily gets through a day with around 30 per cent battery to spare. And then, there is OnePlus Dash Charge, one of the fastest mobile charging solutions that is proprietary to OnePlus. The OnePlus 5T will charge from 0-60 per cent in just half an hour.

The OnePlus 5T is an excellent all-rounder smartphone. It is hitting the stores in Nepal by the end of December. If priced well, there is no doubt that the phone will sell really well. It has got one of the best hardware and the software experience is also good. If weather-sealing and solid sounding speaker is not your top-priority on your phone, then the OnePlus 5T is an excellent option. You will not be disappointed!
