The Foreign Service Institute has found a really innovative way for those who are interested in learning a new language. They have done the handy task of sorting major languages around the world into 5 categories of difficulty according to their differences from English.

Now, there is one Reddit user who decided to translate their tough encrypted data into a more simpler one.
The Romance languages, based mainly on Latin, are among the most approachable and include French, Spanish, and Italian. Now, the second category, for instance, is the Dutch, Danish, and Swedish share common roots with English. But, if you’ve decided to learn any of these, you will learn them pretty easily and quickly. Why? Because these tongues share the more common origin root to English. This map reveals that you’re looking at about 6 months of study to achieve proficiency in any of these ‘Category I’ languages.

Let’s have a look at how much time will we need to learn these languages!
1. Category 1 – This will take up at least from 23-24 weeks.
2. Category 2 – This will take up at least 30 weeks of your time.
3. Category 3 – This category is quite the game and takes up at least 900 hours.
4. Category 4 – This set of tongues can be really tough and can take up at least 1100 hours.
5. Category 5 – This is definitely the toughest of them all, Japanese being the most difficult. It takes up to 2200 hours.
