There are many things which we know are evil. Murder, rape, racism, etc are just a part of it. But do you know that the things we use on a daily basis can also have an evil agenda? It may be surprising to know but Google does it, that’s true.
Google is the boss of the online world. It is the most powerful force on the Internet. Right from our basic to daily online needs can be easily sufficed by Google alone. We search on Chrome browser, check emails on Gmail, watch videos on YouTube, write blogs on Blogger and the list continues. But anything with the power of changing mindsets has some evil potential as well. When we look closely, it does not follow its own “Don’t Be Evil” tagline. Read on for more discussion on this.
1. Monopoly

Anyone with a prior experience with economics knows that monopolies are evil. In summer 2017, Google was fined an amount of $2.5 billion by the European Union. Reason being that Google had used its dominance to keep the competitors out of their search results. In Germany alone, it takes over 90% of the total online searches.

Google can and will censor your content/app if they didn’t like it. There was this social media app called Gab, which was based on the First Amendment. Google is left-wing so it didn’t agree with people using Gab and banned it from the Play Store. And since Gab users include neo-nazis as well, they were right in a way. But Twitter and YouTube are filled with content which is both inappropriate and violent, still, they rank high on Play Store.
3. Affecting Livelihood

YouTube has helped many people to rise and make a living off their talent. In fact, a number of people depend on YouTube revenues for their livelihood. Google pays money to only those channels, that shows advertisements. However, the company has a habit of removing the ads without any prior notice or communication. This deprives the previous hosts of the earnings. But if the channel is too big, it prefer not touching it leaving small channels to feel the wrath.
4. Avoid Taxes

As much as it is known for providing many services, Google does make it to the list of “tax avoiders”. Over the past few years, a number of European countries have had to push Google into paying the taxes. Most of this tax avoidance is possible due to Ireland. It funnels almost one-third of its total global earnings through Ireland.
5. Illegally Acquiring Health Data

DeepMind is Google’s biggest initiative. It’s an Artificial Intelligence system that can result in being harmful if left unchecked. All DeepMind needs to learn is an insane amount of public data. In 2015, Google was successful in acquiring such raw data in a rather suspicious way. They had a partnership with London’s Royal Free Trust Hospital, which included selling information of 1.6 million British patients without their consent.
6. Google Maps

It’s an excellent app that prevents us from getting lost. Like literally. But a bit of laxity caused trouble once. In Nicaragua, the commander relied on G-Maps and directed the troop into Costa Rica. This was a clear violation of border agreement but thank goodness the matter didn’t elevate up to war and killing. But what if that happened between countries already having sour relations? I bet that wouldn’t have turned out to be good.
7. Street View

In 2010, Google was pushing to develop Street View which included sending cars to gather information about the various Wi-Fi access points. But this wasn’t the case alone. Google was actually hoarding up the information flowing through these access points. In short, they were expanding their database with our information without even letting anyone know.
8. Everything

Yes. That’s exactly what Google does wants to know. Everything. They are not just okay with our Facebook data, though for some people that alone would be enough. But think about it, from Google Voice to G+ and Google Drive, the company wants to know every aspect of our living. What we store, where we go, what we search for, everything!
