A total of 36 district offices in Kathmandu have been removed with the local level units coming into operation following the implementation of federalism.

According to Assistant Chief District Officer of Kathmandu Basudev Ghimire, the move was taken as the services being rendered by the offices will be delivered by the local level units.

The district level offices scrapped are related to education, public health, agriculture, forest and land among others while offices as the District Administration Office, District Court, District Treasury Office, Office of Land Revenue and Survey, District Attorney Office and District Election Office are kept intact, shared Ghimire.

Following the implementation of federalism in the country, the services rendered by the district-based offices would be delivered from local level units from July 17 according to the new Constitution.

The buildings where the removed offices were located would be managed within mid-October while the staffers of the offices too would be deployed at local level offices by the same time, said Ghimire.

There are currently 11 local level units in Kathmandu district.

Suryagadhi rural municipality of Nuwakot on Friday was declared an open defecation free and fully immunized local level.

Speaking at a program organized at ward-2, Chogade, Nepali Congress (NC) central member and former Finance Minister Dr Ram Sharan Mahat declared Suryagadhi rural municipality as the 10th open defecation free and 4th fully immunized area of Nuwakot district.

Former Minister Dr Mahat declared Suryagadhi rural municipality as ODF zone based on the government data that 99 percent of total households now have well-built toilets which he said is an important part of sanitation.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Mahat said that the awareness created among the people for the building of civilized society would encourage to move ahead to the path of economic development and prosperity.

At the program, Suryagadhi rural municipality chairperson Santa Bahadur Ghale shared that the next year budget would be introduced putting health and sanitation on top priority.

Likewise, the rural municipality was declared the fully-immunized zone with the administration of all stipulated 11 types of vaccination to 206 children aged 16 to 23 months here.

The Province Assembly meeting of Province no 5 on Wednesday unanimously passed the ‘Bill Related to Provisions of Facilities to the Office-bearers and Members of Local Level’.

A way would be opened for the people’s representatives of local-level under the province to get facilities once the bill would be certified by the State Chief.

The people’s representatives of local-level had not got the salary till around one year after their election to the posts in lack of laws.

Senior-most member of the province Assembly, Baldev Sharma Pokharel, presented the proposal along with some revision regarding the facilities to be received by the office-bearers and members of local level under Province no 5 in the meeting.

The proposal tabled by Province no 5 Chief Minister Shanker Pokharel was passed unopposed while presenting it by Speaker Purna Bahadur Gharti as the decision.
